At SASS we have some of the sickest tree lines ever. From Jay Peak to Baker we get people who know woods and they are never dissapointed in what we have to offer.

Some of the best days can be crushing lines up top all morning and then building a tree jib to relax and hike with the crew in the middle of the woods. There are transitions and features all around us, at SASS one of our favorite things to do is to find them.

SASS is proudly locked and loaded with Forum’s ‘09 gear. Stacked with the latest boards, boots, binding and softgoods, campers are chomping at the bit and lining up to test it out. Luckily they can !! At SASS’s exclusive South American demo center !! AHH! Sooo rad !!!! Poppin’ colors, premier equipment, everyone is neon blinded on next years product.
Luke Shelley from South America Snow Sessions had this to say about the announcement:
“SASS couldn’t be happier with our decision to partner with Forum. It is a logical fit that the premiere Freeride & Backcountry Freestyle camp in the world be associated with the Forum brand that is positioned on the cutting edge of the snowboard industry.”
South America Snow Sessions has arrived. We’ve made it. We’re here. We have officially landed in San Carlos de Bariloche, the most beautiful place in the world in the heart of Patagonia.
24 of the brightest young skier and snowboarders bounced into Buenos Aires and landed at, an Estancia, traditional Argentinian Ranch where everyone was able play. Bikes, horses, a killer soccer game, tennis, volleyball and ostriches. Some even got their very first taste of the local food. As we played the Asador was cooking up fresh meat slow roasted on an open fire. Berdo, SASS Coach, ” The ranch was pretty cool, a different experience for the kids. A foreign country, foreign meat, different from anything at home.”
Argentina, bright sunny day, new and old friends all transmitting the snow stoke. Who could ask for anything more? …. Well, how about a giant double decker bus pimped with TVs and lazy boys and lined with observation windows. This was our chariot that was to take us to one of the world’s ski and snowboard meccas
.6 hours of snowboard and ski videos, 8 hours sleep, and 3 hours of your face plastered up against the window drooling over the scenery later, we unloaded, unpacked, and nestled into our new home, Hosteria de la Luna, overlooking an enormous lake surround by ginormous snow capped mountains… and so it all begins…
eesa lux layering and South America Snow Sessions announce the Lux Sessions winner for 2008!
eesa - the brand that created the lux layering category and South America Snow Sessions (SASS) - the premier snow camp in the southern hemisphere, teamed up to provide a once in-a-lifetime opportunity for one guy or gal to keep the dream alive by flying them to Argentina for an all-expense paid 17-day session* at SASS. Yep, that’s right, eesa provides the head-to-toe kit plus a flight to Argentina and SASS provides the accommodations, meals, lift tickets and terrain for the greatest 17-day shred journey of their life!
In the end it came down to a bit of luck, some hard work and a mad dose of creativity in the form of a hand-built pop-up book complete with a story that rhymed and all around kick-assness. The winner is Britta Byer of California. Britta will be attending session 5 August 22nd to September 7th, experiencing all the shred that SASS has to offer and the lux eesa provides. Congratulations Britta!! Here is a look at her pop-up box winning entry…although the pictures dont do it justice.
Sean Ryan from the SASS team has been working hard all year, learning new tricks, hitting major comps and just got back from 12 days of training with Travis Moore in Lake Tahoe.
This video shows some of the highlights from his season which strectched from last July with us in Argentina until now. Sean will be back at SASS for two sessions this summer to dial in his combos on big jumps, add some new ridiculous rail tricks to his bag and get strong for the 2008/2009 contest season.
SASS is excited to announce their partnership with BCA. BCA has long been known for making trancievers that are easy to use, durabile and accurate. This past season BCA worked on an outreach program with SASS to provide 25 below cost Tracker Beacons to the ski patrol at Cerro Catedral Alta Patagonia (home resort for SASS). In addition Skylar Holgate (SASS lead guide), and Mauri Cambrilla (SASS ski pro) ran an avalanche safety course for the Patrol Staff using images from Silverton Mountain in Colorado where Skylar spends his NA winters guiding.“The ease of use of the Tracker DTS beacon allows me more time to train our clients on recovery and safety tactics. I use the Tracker year round both at Silverton Mountain in Colorado and with SASS in the Andes and feel it is the best product out their for both my needs and the needs of the client Skylar Holgate, lead guide Silverton Mountain and South America Snow Sessions.
For 2008 BCA products will be available for purchase for SASS clients online through the SASS online store and for use at the new 2008 SASS demo center in Bariloche.
The South America Snow Sessions family is excited to welcome Ashley Barker down to the Southern Hemisphere for the 2008 winter season as our staff photographer.
3 year SASS camper Ben Girardi will be our photography intern working closely with Ashley to document all the action this season at SASS.
Where’s Garrett. Cerro Catedral Bariloche July 2007
Photo Reed Purvis
Garrett has been holding it down hard at Mammoth, travelling for fresh lines, trying new tricks and just got back from a 15 day trip to Alaska to slay big lines on his own terms.
Check out his blog at http://blog.garrett-russell.com/
So many cool photos and videos on there. You will want to add it to your favorites.
At SASS we are so lucky to have Garrett down for the whole season every year. His fresh & fun outlook on skiing/life and using the whole mountain as a park allows him to lead by example at SASS.
